Green Hus

Caring for our world is second nature. We build for generations of families, and that gives us a special perspective on things. We want today’s grandchildren to grow up in a cleaner, safer world with our sustainable practices and credentials.

What do we do to achieve this?

Our green credentials are highlighted by the fact we’re proud to be the UK’s only annexe provider to be recognised and awarded an ISO14001 Accreditation for Environmental Management System.

  • We keep all material wastage to a minimum
  • 95% of our timber is FSC or PEFC Certified from carefully managed and replenished stocks
  • We repurpose offcuts to achieve only 2% timber wastage
  • Our decking is made from recycled materials
  • We install screw pile foundations that are friendly to tree roots and create zero spoil
  • Our planning process mitigates for protected wildlife such as trees, hedgerows, newts, owls & more
  • We closely manage deliveries for emission efficiency
  • Our best-in-class builds comply with regulated, safe discharge of waste and surface water
  • Across all products we have a 95% + EPC Environmental Impact (CO2) Rating
  • Our HQ is a licensed carrier for skips, sanitary and data/confidential waste
  • We utilise smart tech for reporting to minimise paper waste

In our purpose-built factory, we construct the solid timber frame, which is FSC or PEFC certified from carefully managed and replenished stocks, reducing greenhouse gases by up to 30%. We use off-site machinery, eliminating most of the site traffic and helping to keep air pollution down. We use screw piles for our solid foundations rather than concrete, the world’s second-greatest contributor to carbon emissions. Our composite decking is made from a long-lasting, almost entirely recycled material.

Our insulation is ultra-efficient in reducing energy consumption, and we install green electric heating and hot water systems. The radiators feature the latest advanced control technology to reduce power consumption by over 60%. Every annexe model features LED lighting, which is 90% more energy efficient than halogen alternatives, and our solar panel packages help to turn your annexe into a small-scale energy supplier while reducing carbon emissions.

By constructing most of our homes in our purpose-built premises, we reduce greenhouse gasses by up to 30%. Using off-site machinery also drives down these gasses by around 50%. And, since we eliminate much of the site traffic in the process, we help to keep air pollution on Britain’s roads down and reduce local on-site disruption to a minimum.

We like to give every iHus a traditional solid timber frame – and we ensure 95% of our timber is FSC or PEFC Certified from carefully managed and replenished stocks. We also choose Saige composite decking – an advanced, long-lasting material formed almost entirely from recycled plastic and recycled wood fibres. And we use screw piles for our solid foundations rather than concrete (the world’s second-greatest contributor to carbon emissions).
