At iHus we build for generations of families. And that gives us a special perspective on things. We want today’s grandchildren to grow up in a cleaner, safer world. That’s why our commitment to sustainable building and eco-friendly materials is tangible in every aspect of our homes. That is why we created Green Hus.
From our first ever iHus we set out to build in a cleaner, greener way. So we took a careful look at every aspect of construction. And as well as incorporating established eco-friendly techniques in our homes, we found surprising new ways of reducing our footprint. It’s not always the easiest or quickest solution for us, but Green Hus is the right thing to do.
By constructing much of our homes in our purpose-built premises, we reduce greenhouse gasses by upto 30%. Using off-site machinery also drives down these gasses by around 50%. And, since we eliminate much of the site traffic in the process, we help to keep air pollution on Britain’s roads down and reduce local on-site disruption to a minimum.
We like to give every iHus a traditional solid timber frame – and we ensure 95% of our timber is FSC or PEFC Certified from carefully managed and replenished stocks. We also choose Saige composite decking – an advanced, long-lasting material formed almost entirely from recycled plastic and recycled wood fibres. And we use screw piles for our solid foundations rather than concrete (the world’s second greatest contributor to carbon emissions).
Our iHus insulation is ultra-efficient to dramatically reduce energy consumption whilst delivering A+ internal air quality. We also install green electric heating and hot water systems to eliminate emissions. Our Ronite radiators feature the very latest advanced control technology to reduce power consumption by over 60%. And every iHus home features modern LED lighting throughout. A+ rated and ultra-efficient, this lighting is 90% more energy efficient than halogen alternatives.
