When Jill found herself living alone after the loss of her husband, she knew she wanted to be closer to family while remaining in the area she had called home for decades. Living with Parkinson’s brought new challenges, but moving into ‘Nanny’s Nook’, a beautifully designed one-bedroom annexe in daughter Chrissy and son-in-law Chris’s garden, has given her the perfect balance of independence, comfort and family support right on her doorstep.

“Mum has kept her independence, her pride and her confidence. It’s a future-proof home, but it doesn’t look clinical or medical in any way. It’s absolutely perfect for her. What started as this wacky idea of moving Mum into the garden has just worked. It’s been a dream come true for all of us.”

Built for everyday living

Inside, every detail has been carefully considered to help Jill live comfortably and independently. The bright open-plan living space, vaulted ceiling and rooflight create a wonderful sense of light and openness, while the spacious layout makes moving around effortless. From the stylish kitchen to the accessible shower room and generous bedroom, the annexe combines thoughtful future-proof design with the warmth and character of a real home.

Filled with Jill’s own furniture, photographs and treasured possessions, it felt like home from the moment she moved in.

Bringing the whole family together

One of the greatest joys of ‘Nanny’s Nook’ is the way it keeps the family connected. Rather than living alone, Jill is now a much bigger part of everyday family life, with grandchildren regularly popping round to visit nanny’s house in the garden. Whether it’s sharing a cup of tea, catching up after school or spending time together outdoors, the annexe has created a special space where independence and family togetherness go hand in hand.
