It’s a brand-new year and the start 365 brand new gems of possibilities. Maybe you have made some new year resolutions for your body and mind, but what about making new year resolutions for your granny annexe?
It might sound a bit daft but really it makes perfect sense. Your granny annexe is your home and sanctuary away from all of life’s worries, so why not make it the best it possibly can be?
Plus, winter is getting to that horribly dreary bit, so a bit of a spruce up might be all you need. I know it always makes me feel better.
Here are some simple new year resolutions for your granny annexe that will fill you with the joys of spring and make your day to day that little bit brighter.
Spring Clean Your Granny Annexe
I don’t know about you, but whenever I take down my Christmas decorations, I feel like my home is filthy, even though it isn’t.
Twelfth night finds me emptying and cleaning cupboards, scrubbing paintwork, and wiping down all the windows.
A good spring clean can be all you need to shake off the post-Christmas blues.
Plus, it’s good exercise!
If the thought of cleaning your whole annexe in one day, do it bit by bit.
You could do room by room, or task by task. One day, do the windows on the front. The next, the windows on the back.
Or even carry the duster round in your pocket and wipe round as you pass. You don’t have to have a marathon cleaning session!
But, of course, if you do feel up to it you can clean it all in one go. The beauty of an iHus Granny Annexe, of course, is that they are small enough for many to tackle in one go.
Spruce up the Garden
If you are green fingered, you might want to start getting your garden ready for spring. If the ground is too hard to put any bulbs in you can start to clear out the dead to make way for the new.
Weeding and turning the soil can be very therapeutic and get your annexe garden ready for spring.
Even though it is a bit late to be putting any bulbs in you might be able to find some spring flowering ones if you hunt around and are quick. Tulips, daffodils and even snow drops will make your garden lovely and colourful sooner than you might think.
Or, if being outside in the cold isn’t your thing, or you don’t have space for a garden you could plant some window boxes or get some houseplants. This will brighten up your annexe and your mood!
Do Those Long Overdue Jobs
If you are like me, you will have a long list of little jobs that you just haven’t gotten around to.
Well, a great new year resolution for your granny annexe is to start working through your list.
Perhaps you have some photo frames to put up. Resolve to put it up this afternoon or ask someone to help and get them booked in!
Or maybe you have a pile of stuff (we all have a pile of stuff somewhere) that needs sorting. Don’t keep ignoring it. Next time you walk past it, start sorting it out.
Or maybe its something bigger that you have just been putting off. Perhaps you want to get some decking laid or would like to refresh your bathroom. Even though the iHus annexes are built to last with loads of great options to choose from, maybe you are just ready for a change!
Either way, if you are looking for a tradesperson to come and do some jobs for you, we like ratedpeople.com or checkatrade.co.uk. Or, you can always check your local directory or ask friends for recommendations.
Make Space For The Grandkids
Grandkids are wonderful. If you are lucky enough to have them, you no doubt delight in their company.
But one of the big benefits of grandchildren is, well, they go home! You get all the joy and none of the work!
But sometimes they bring that much stuff that your beautiful granny annexe can look like a bomb has hit it when they do go home. Toys, crayons and teddys strewn everywhere and no where to put them!
If this sounds familiar, a good new year resolution for your granny annexe could be clearing out a cupboard or drawer or investing in some plastic tubs or boxes. This way when the little angels go home you can chuck everything into it and be done!
Or, better yet, sing a Spoonful of Sugar from Mary Poppins and turn tidying up into a fun game for them!
Having a stash of toys and a special place for them will make your grandkids feel welcome and like yours is a home from home for them.
