Our Annexe homes are indeed 20% more thermally efficient than other builders.
From using several recycled products and FSC-stamped timber, from the foundations to the finishing touches, our annexes are built with the environment at the forefront of our minds. This culture flows through our entire business model, not just our products. From our delivery methods, waste recycling, and quality management accreditations, iHus is an energy-efficient Annexe builder you can trust to put our customers and the environment first.
Only carefully selected products are used to create our annexes. Each has a traditional solid timber frame, all FSC or PEFC Certified from the world's most trusted sustainable forestry standard. We use Saige composite decking created with recycled plastics and wood fibres. We also use almost no concrete (the world's second most significant contributor of carbon emissions), and instead, we use screw piles for our foundations. We use rubber made from recycled products to form the roofs of our annexes, along with cladding that has a long life span and is fully recyclable after use.
Although we keep our waste production to a minimum, the waste we produce from our warehouse and office facilities is recycled using Biffa. This means our waste is removed and recycled sustainably via an efficient and reliable local service.
What's more, the insulation of each of our annexes is installed in our on-site warehouse so that all waste is used and recycled in the next job that leaves the factory.
Using a more sustainable delivery process, we have reduced our carbon emissions by approximately 60%. We use local supplier branches for each of our jobs up and down the country instead of having each one delivered from our local branches, this reduces emissions and limits the number of vehicles we require on Britain's roads.
What's more, we have further reduced our carbon footprint by upgrading part of our fleet of vehicles to fifth-generation hybrid electric power.
Because we construct most of our homes in our on-site purpose-built premises, we reduce greenhouse gasses by up to 30%. We also use off-site machinery, reducing these gasses by approximately 50%.
The Energy Efficiency Part L includes an assessment based on the heat loss in our annexes and raises the overall energy performance of the homes that we build.
We have achieved a lower U value to comply with Part L, meaning that our customers receive more insulation to limit heat loss in their homes, lowering heating costs and in turn, the environmental impact of our annexes.
