With house prices ever increasing, multi-generation and independent relative living are high-growth trends within the UK property market.
Our living pods can add significant value to the main dwelling, whilst providing much needed space for you and your parents.
If you haven’t thought about it, you should because there are immense benefits. It has worked tremendously well for me in a way that I didn’t expect it to be as good as it is.
Most people associate ‘granny annexe’ with the elderly, but iHUS customers Zoe and her mum Val, decided to go down the annexe route as an alternative to adapting a flat or building an extension. Zoe now lives in her living pod with her son, Bradley.
“Bradley has autism and ADHD,” says Zoe. “We need a safe environment with no stairs, as Bradley can be clumsy and finds uneven surfaces difficult to navigate.” A two-bedroom annexe in Mum, Val’s garden provided the most ideal solution for Zoe and her son.
“We looked at buying a flat, though we’d have had to carry out adaptions and lose the garden space, plus I wouldn’t have mum nearby to help with care for Bradley. We then thought about adding an extension to mum’s house, but preferred the idea of having the entire process managed for us by iHUS,” concludes Zoe.
The annexed living pod suits everyone in the family; Bradley no longer has to navigate the stairs, is close to both his mum and grandmother, Zoe has help with care from mum plus her own space, and Val gets to spend time with her family.
We’re helping more and more first-time buyers, like Zoe, to build their independence. Our living pods can be customised with a range of options and finishes, and come with a ten-year build guarantee. Here are a couple of recent projects to inspire you.

Our customers think there is no time better than now to think about moving into a granny annexe – not waiting until they need to.
We’ve built over 150 garden annexes over the years, and have pictures of most completed projects. So, if you need further inspiration, and would like to view further portfolio images, please get in touch.
