Why did you opt for Annexe living?
My Wife made the decision. When Covid happened and we were in lockdown so many people our age were going into care homes getting ill and even dying in there. they weren’t allowed to have any visitors. Me and my wife hazel had a conversation as shed seen something on the TV about an Annexe, and told me and our children ‘if anything happens to me, don’t put me in a care home!’
She said ‘I want to live in one of those Annexes’. One of our sons was looking for a place like this
My son came back and said to Hazel are you serous about living in an annexe, she said yes, and that’s how it came about.
How did you find out about iHus
David my son sent me a link to one online, he said ‘there’s one local Dad’ they take care of the planning and everything.
My Son then got in touch with Nigel at iHus and he came out to see us and we got around the table and talked it all through and never looked back.
When Nigel, our sales and project development manager came to visit, did you feel you were able to customize as you would like?
Oh yes, definitely! No problems at all. Anything we mentioned to him, he designed everything around us to match our requirements.
How long have you lived in your Annexe home now?
We’ve lived in here for 4 months now.
How have you found living in your new home, has it met your expectations?
Yes it has definitely. We love it. The only thing we would change is adding somewhere to store my wellies!
What’s one of your favourite things about living in your Annexe?
Its much easier to clean with it being all on one level.
What’s it like living next door to your son?
We’ve always been close, my sons always worked with me so now living with him just makes it possible for us to stay close like we always have been. A care home wouldn’t have worked for us as we wanted to stay close to the house we built ourselves. We’ve made it what it is now and we didn’t want to leave it; luckily thanks to iHus we don’t have to.
How have you found living closer to your Grandchildren?
We have 2 grandchildren living in the main house. We see one of our grand daughters every day, she comes in the morning to feed the horses and then she comes in to see us nearly every night – we love it. The others are quite busy but we still get to see them more than we would have done.
Have any of your friends been to visit your Annexe?
Yes our friend Keith has been and he said I’ve known you a long time and I’m happy your settled where you are. A few neighbours have came around to see the Annexe as they’ve watched it being built, and a few of them have asked to come and have a look as they’re thinking to have one themselves. Everyone who’s been to see have said how smart it looks and how nice it is inside.
Did you go to see an Open Hus Annexe before you decided you wanted one for yourselves?
Yes we went to visit one in Tickhill and we fell in love with it. We thought we’d feel boxed in in an Annexe before we looked at one.
What do you get up to on a typical day now you’re retired and living in an Annexe?
Ill tell you what I’ve been doing, spending all my time in the garden! I’m always busy out there or in the greenhouse. We also take the dog on a walk as we’ve got lots of nice walking routes near us. We also go over to the main house to have a moan to our son then come back to the Annexe (laughs).
How did you find the workforce who built your Annexe?
The lads that came and built it were good lads. They we’re also really hard workers. Id offer them in for a cuppa and we’d have a chat and then they’d get straight back to it.
Do you feel rest assured your living close to your family?
Yes definitely. Our
Would you recommend Annexe living to other people?
Yes most definitely!
