Recently appointed iHus ambassador Tony Blackburn has provided an insight into his own journey as a genuine customer of ours, more than five years after the completion of his very own iHus annexe.
The legendary broadcaster was named our first ever brand ambassador earlier this year, after having previous built a relationship with our team as one of our most high-profile clients.
The legendary broadcaster and first ever ‘king of the celebrity jungle’ explains: “My wife found out about iHus when we were looking for a solution to look after her mother.
“We had a broken down old shed at the side of my house, and I realised that there was enough land there to build an annexe on.
“We did some research online, got in touch with the team, came to see them to learn all about it, and the whole experience was just terrific.”
Blackburn, who is a keen advocate for multi-generational living, says the process of having his own iHus annexe built was both flexible and painless.
“One thing we really liked about the process was that it was extremely flexible,” he said.
“There wasn’t a single instance that I recall where we were told ‘you have to have it like this’; we were always able to do things to our own specifications.
“They measured everything up, let us know what was possible, and gave us so many reassurances around safety, which was a hugely important factor for us.
“My mother-in-law was 91 at that time, so safety was a big thing,” he added.
“We discovered that everything was electrically powered, meaning that there are no flames or anything particularly dangerous.”
Following the design phase, Tony’s dream of creating a modern, stylish granny annexe to help keep a dear family member close by quickly became a reality.
“The building team came down to our house and we’d see them working through the day, and it was great fun getting to know them.
“It was a really wonderful journey for us, and the product at the end of this has fit the bill perfectly.
He continued: “Six years on, it’s still there, it looks great, we’ve never had any trouble with it and everything works just as well as it always did.
“The heating in there is terrific, too, which is obviously crucial at this time of year, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience.
He added: “Christmas is traditionally a time for families to come together, and I think that this is a great option for those that want to do that.”
